Monsoon Health Precautions

Monsoon Health Precautions

The infections reduce the natural resistance level of the body. A few of the very common diseases of this season are cough, cold, flu, poor digestion, jaundice, typhoid, and dysentery. Besides, skin related problems such as abscess, prickly heat, and eczema are also very common.

As the monsoon sets in clinics get flooded with patients with complaints of fever, cough, cold, loose motions, nausea, vomiting, skin problems with itching, weakness, headache, body ache and so on. This is precisely the time to take care and precautions to protect oneself from a long list of health hazards that accompany monsoon.

Follow these guidelines to remain safe and healthy during monsoons!

Maximum infections during this season are water borne and hence do not drink water, which is not properly boiled and stored. Don't drink beverages made other than from treated boiled water and do not add ice, even if they are not chilled to your liking.

Fever is a serious health problem during the monsoon season and do not ignore it, if it lasts for more than two days. Remember prevention is better than cure.

Apply a strong insect repellent to keep mosquitoes away and prevent getting bitten. It's also a good idea to take anti-malarial drugs during this time of year, as malaria is at its most prevalent.

If you suffer from asthma or diabetes, avoid staying anywhere with damp walls. It promotes the growth of fungus and can be especially harmful. Diabetic patients need to take extra care of their feet during the monsoon season. These patients should take specific care, as not to walk barefoot since the soil on which they walk is a reservoir of all types of germs.

Wash your hands before handling food, after eating food and after visiting the toilet. Maintain good personal hygiene.

Keeping yourself and your immediate surroundings clean, quickly changing to dry clothes and enjoying piping hot food or beverages, go a long way to lift your spirits.
